Ignore the emergency

People around the world are suffering hardship. How do we deal with that?

Time and again, people come to talk with people who want to know more about our work in Ethiopia. When they hear that we are dealing with poor people, a compassionate look flits across their faces. They are shocked by the poverty that exists in this world and at the same time they are grateful that they are doing so well themselves … The responses to these feelings, however, are very different. There are people who are immediately ready to do something about poverty and start helping a poor person. Then there are also people who are sad, that there is so much suffering, and also find very nice words, but do not do anything that this situation changes a little.

While reading the Bible, I recently came across a passage in the second chapter of the Letter of James:
“When a brother or sister is naked and lacking in daily food, and someone among you is speaking to them: Go in peace, warm and feed yourself, but do not give them what the body needs – what helps them that? “(verses 15 and 16)

Please do not get me wrong. We as individuals can not relieve every misery from which we hear something; we do not have to. But the question we should ask ourselves is, is there anything we are doing to address the plight of this world, or are we still among those who are not helping themselves?

Help with a donation ...

Helping is something great. In terms of supporting evangelists and other needy people in Ethiopia, demand exceeds our financial capabilities. That’s why we need help. We are happy about every little donation.
