The spread of COVID-19 also leads to increased entry controls, health checks with temperature measurements and entry bans in Ethiopia. On April 8, 2020, the state of emergency was declared for an initial period of five months, which will significantly expand the powers of the cabinet and the security forces. The decisions that were previously valid nationwide include the ban on larger events, the closure of all schools, restaurants and clubs, and the occupation of vehicles only up to half their capacity, along with the doubling of the fare for buses and taxis. As of March 18, 2020, Lufthansa canceled all flight connections from Addis Ababa to Frankfurt. Ethiopian Airlines has thinned the previous flight plan. Flight operations to Europe are currently closed. Therefore Shimi will probably not be back in Germany until the beginning of May. Travel within Ethiopia is currently hardly possible. The parliamentary elections scheduled for August 29, 2020 have been postponed indefinitely. At the end of February 2020, an attack by Prime Minister Abiy in the regional city of Ambo led to an attack that caused many injuries among his supporters. The border areas of the Oromo and Somali regions are characterized by repeated violent and sometimes fatal clashes between the two ethnic groups.
