News in the mission
Shimi is yesterday on January 9th. Fly to Ethiopia in 2020. Together with Helmut Blatt, they will hold training courses in Dire Dawa for several weeks. Since the training courses are often exhausting and the heat is currently increasing in Ethiopia, we want to pray for the brothers that God gives the necessary strength to serve. Please also pray for preservation that there will be no unrest.

News in politics

Abiy Ahmed received the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo on December 10th after only one and a half years in government. In Ethiopia, the Amharic / oromia-born Prime Minister has to fight for the country’s cohesion.

In October the Nobel Committee announced that Abiy Ahmed had prevailed against 222 other nominated personalities and 78 organizations and that he should be honored on December 10, the birthday of the price founder Alfred Nobel, who died in 1896. Abiy earned the award “for his efforts for peace and international cooperation, and in particular for his determined initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighboring Eritrea”.

Between 1998 and 2002, around 100,000 soldiers had died as a result of the border dispute between Eritrea and Ethiopia, and since then the state of war has officially remained. Abiy Ahmed and Eritrean dictator Isayas Afewerki signed a peace treaty last July. Eritrea regains some of the land that was taken from them years ago. However, only Abiy Ahmed was awarded.

Here too we can pray that God will keep this peace and that we will continue to bring the gospel to people in Northern Ethiopia.
